The two-day institutional mission to Kosovo led by Franco Iacop, the President of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, came to a close today with Mr Iacop’s presentation of the Region at the event organised by the Italian Embassy in Pristina. The event was attended for Italy by representatives of Finest (Credit Institution for the internationalisation of companies in North-East Italy) and, for Kosovo, by the Minister of Economic Development, Blerand Stavileci. During his presentation, Iacop emphasised how the enlargement of the European Union represents an investment in the peace, security and prosperity of Europe because it offers EU member and accession countries greater economic and trade opportunities, thus fostering democratic, political, economic and social progress. On the agenda of the first day of the mission was a meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank, Bedri Hamza, which took stock of the investment opportunities and made an overview of the country’s economic situation. The next appointment on the agenda was a meeting with the Vice-President of the Parliament, Xhavit Haliti, who headed a delegation of MPs with whom there was an exchange of information on the political and administrative aspects at local level. Vice-President Haliti expressed great interest for the experience accumulated by the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and accepted President Iacop’s invitation to visit the Region in order to further explore several aspects in a series of institutional meetings at different levels. The first day closed with a meeting with Major General Luigi Miglietta, commander of KFOR (Kosovo Force), the NATO-led international military force that assures peace and public order in the region.
