His Excellency Roman Kirn Addresses the Detroit Economic Club

October 24, 2012 – His Excellency Roman Kirn, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the United States and Mexico, addressed the Detroit Economic Club yesterday on his perspective of future EU integration and the importance of EU-US cooperation. “We did not become independent to grow in isolation,” he said. “We wanted a larger entity, and [the] European Union is a community of democratic states in which our culture and political identity is being preserved. And we continue to believe that the European Union is by far the most important and most successful project Europe has ever had. We need to build on our achievements, not on our failures. And the future of [the] EU is important, for a union and its citizens. But it is also important for the United States, for its well being of its citizens, for one good reason: because our economies are integrated more than any other economy in the world. And that brings our interests, our hopes, very much aligned.”
