Prayer for the martyrs of the sinkholes

Monsignor Antonio Santin
Bishop of Trieste – 1959

O God, Lord of life and death, of light and darkness,
the depth of this land
and our pain
we cry to Thee.

Hear, O Lord, our voice.
We came here to raise
our poor prayers
and lay our flowers,
but also to learn the teaching
that rises from the sacrifice of these deaths.

And we turn to Thee,
because you have picked up their last cry,
their last breath.
This ordeal,
with the summit collapsed in the bowels of the earth,
is a great chair,
indicates that in justice and in the ways of peace.

Well, Lord, Prince of Peace,
grant us your peace.
It gives comfort to the wives, mothers,
sisters, children of those
found in all the ravines of our sad earth,
and all of us feel that we are alive and weighed every day
heart on the punishment for these deaths,
how deep chasms that receive them.

You are the living, O Lord, and they live in you.
That even if their purification is not perfect,
we offer you, or holy and righteous God, our prayer ,
our anguish, our sacrifices,
because they come early to enjoy the splendor of Your Face.

It gives us a resignation and fortitude, wisdom and goodness.
You told us:
“Blessed are the merciful for they shall be called sons of God,
Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted ”
but blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice
they shall be satisfied in You, O Lord,
because it is always transient and the apparent triumph of iniquity.
